George Harvey Bone is a composer in early 2 0th centur y London, who is under st ress be cause he i s writing a p iano concerto. Due to this stress, he gets bl ack outs when e ver he hea rs disson ances. Wh en he finds himself af ter the b lack out in a different quarter of t he town, he r eturns home, to read i n the paper t hat som ebody i n that qu arter was murdered. Ask ing help from a doctor at Scot land Ya rd he i s assured that he has n othing to do with i t, but he is a dvised to cut back in h is work and get some relaxation lik e other, or dinary people. At a che ap musica l he meets N etta, a singer , who ins pires him for a new motive fo r his concer to. But Netta discovers that t his motive co uld also b e used as a song for her.
