Wealthy Rollo Tre adway (Buster Keaton) suddenly d ecides t o propos e to his neig hbor across t he street, Betsy O&am p;#39;Brien ( Kathryn McGuir e), and sends his servant to book passage for a hon eymoon sea c ruise to Honolulu . When B etsy rejects h is sudden o ffer however, he decid es to go on the trip anywa y, board ing witho ut delay that night. Because the p ier num ber is p artially covere d, he en ds up on the wrong sh ip, the Navigato r, which Be tsy& ;#39;s rich fa ther (Frederick Vroom) has just s old to a small coun try at wa r. Agent s for t he other small nation i n the co nflict decid e to set the ship adri ft that same n ight. Whe n Betsy&#39 ;s father c hecks up on the ship, he is captured and tied up by the saboteu rs. Betsy he ars his cry for h elp and b oards the s hip to look f or him, just before it is cut loose. The Navigat or drifts out into the Pacif ic Ocean. The two unwittin g passengers ev entually find e ach othe r. At firs t, they have g reat difficu lty looking after themselves, but adapt af ter a few weeks. At one point, t hey sight a na vy ship an d hoist a br ightly-colore d flag, n ot real izing it signal s that the shi p is under quar antine. As a r esult, the other vessel turns away. Final ly, the ship grounds itself near an inhabit ed trop ical islan d and sp rings a lea k. While Rollo dons a deep sea diving su it and submerge s to patch the hole, the b lack natives ca noe out and take Bet sy captive. When Rollo em erges from the ocean , the nati ves are sca red off, enabli ng him to r escue Betsy and take her bac k to the ship. The na tives ret urn and try to board the ship. After a f ierce struggle, Rollo and Bet sy try to es cape in a sma ll ding hy. It st arts to sink, and t he nati ves swif tly overt ake them in their cano es.
